Student Organization

Great news!

Phi Sigma Rho is now officially a registered student organization at the University of Cincinnati. The faculty advisor is Jill Flood, whom the girls are having lunch with this Sunday at Panera. Jill is a co-op advisor at the University and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Professional Practice.

The treasurer and president have opened a bank account so they are in business for collecting and spending money and a budget will be proposed in the fall with member dues and fundraising goals.

For now, the group is to be considered a non-affiliated social sorority that is part of the Inter-Greek Council at UC. The goal for the future is to become a member of Panhellenic and participate in social Greek activities on campus. Approval as a student organization is just one step in our big journey of becoming a new chapter, but it is now one that is officially complete!

Zoo Trip

Last Sunday, the girls had their social event at the Cincinnati Zoo. They have chosen an animal for their family, so they made sure to see each exhibit with their animal and tried their best to take a picture with it. Some animals were more cooperative than others.

They managed to see tigers, flamingos, cranes, foxes, seals, lions, hedgehog, peacock, panda, polar bear, elephants, and puffins. And of course, they saw many penguins!

At the end of their trip, they visited the penguin exhibit and had a chance to pet a penguin. I think it was the highlight of their day.

Overall they had a great afternoon together and enjoyed the time spent with their sisters. Make sure to watch the slideshow to see all the girls with their animals and their adventures at the zoo.

Relay for Life!

The philanthropy was a great success!! The event was a lot of fun and the girls met their fundraising goal. From the team website, they raised $1,115. After the tattoo, cookies and quesadilla sales, overall they managed to total $1,300 for the American Cancer Society. They also qualified as one of the top 25 fundraising teams at UC! Phi Sigma Rho was well represented and the girls are definitely proud of their accomplishments.

drenched dorks

They set up camp in the commons next to Triangle where they sold glow in the dark tattoos and "drench the dork" water balloons. Lucy the Bearcat made an appearance as did a sky diver, and there were food and activities galore.

They constantly had girls walking laps around the commons all into the night and Saturday morning. At 10 pm, hundreds of luminarias were lit around the commons to remind us of the loved ones who have had to battle cancer. It's amazing how much we all are affected by the disease.

Overall, UC had 165 teams and raised about $106,000. I have a feeling Phi Sigma Rho will be participating in this event again next year. Thank you to all who donated! This was a wonderful event for a great cause.
